Gun rights activist goes after Hollywood A-listers in YouTube video splicing their calls for gun control with violent images from their films

Hollywood Actors

A gun rights activist has a message for Hollywood actors calling for tighter gun control laws following the massacre at a Connecticut elementary school: “Go f-k themelves.”

A new YouTube video takes aim at “hypocrite celebrities and their anti gun agenda” by editing together a recent Public Service Announcement with clips of Hollywood actors in violent, gun-filled movies.

The “Demand a Plan” PSA, sponsored by Mayors Against Illegal Guns, includes a number of A-list celebrities naming recent tragedies in which a heavily armed gunman killed innocent victims, including at a movie theater in Aurora, Colo. and at Sandy Hook Elementary School, in Newtown, Conn. on Dec. 14.

The YouTube response to the PSA, uploaded by user ma5one, strings together solemn images of the actors naming the location of gun massacres with clips from movies in which they are shooting and wielding guns. Jon Hamm, Jamie Foxx, and Cameron Diaz are among the dozen celebrities the video, which has logged nearly 500,000 views, criticizes for appearing in films with guns or gratuitous violence.

The video, however, doesn’t acknowledge that many of the celebrity films clips were of actors playing police, FBI agents or members of the military. It also identifies the celebrity PSA as “anti-gun,” when the video, and the Mayors Against Illegal Guns campaign, actually calls for tighter gun control, including requiring a background check on every gun sold and a ban on high-capacity magazines.

This wasn’t the first time Hollywood has been questioned over its affection for guns-on-film. Jamie Foxx, the lead actor in the new movie “Django Unchained,” acknowledged last week that violent movies might “influence” crime trends. The star-studded red carpet premier for Django was canceled in lieu of a private screening after Sandy Hook because of the violence-for-entertainment factor.
