Supreme Court to hear challenge to New York City gun ordinance

The U.S. Supreme Court has agreed to hear a challenge to a New York City ordinance that places restrictions on transporting handguns, marking the first time since 2010 the justices will take up a case involving the Second Amendment.

At issue in the case is a New York City ordinance that allows handgun owners with a so-called “premises license” to possess the gun in his or her home, or to take them to one of seven shooting ranges located within the city. The ordinance, however, prohibits gun owners from transporting handguns outside of city limits, even when they’re unloaded and stored in a locked container separate from the ammunition.
