Total arrests at the northern border jumped 43 percent between 2017 and 2018, and reached the highest level in eight years. In 2017, 3,027 were arrested.
Still, the uptick in arrests on the northern border makes it the highest level since 2011. Illegal immigration at both the northern and southern borders increased last year.
Of the eight Border Patrol sectors on the northern border, the Detroit sector saw the most arrests at 1,930. Vermont’s Swanton sector finished second with more than 700 apprehensions.
